It's somewhat understated but rich in sherry cask.
Craigellachie CRAIGELLACHIE 1995-2016 20yo EDITION SPIRITS 'THE First Editions' #HL12362 54.4%
One of 305 bottles, SHERRY BUTT
The aroma is gentle and enveloping with recent sherry notes, apricot jam, cinnamon-infused apple pie, charred malt, and a hint of sulfur.
When drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel expanding into the rich sweetness of plum jam and milk chocolate, a mellow tannic depth, malty umami, cinnamon cake, with some sulfur notes but a sweet aftertaste.
[Good/Very Good]
Andrew, son of Stewart from Hunter Laing, established the bottler Edition Spirits. This is the first edition of Craigellachie 1995, aged for 20 years.
A slightly sulfuric nuance is present in both the aroma and flavor, but there's an enveloping sherry character. Notes of sweetness like heated fruits or milk chocolate and cinnamon are present, giving it a sweet, confectionery deliciousness.
The sulfuric elements might fade in a few years.
Recently, bottlers like Mash Tun and Zenith have bottled notable 1994 Craigellachie with a distinct waxy character, but this one is somewhat masked by the sherry notes and is less noticeable.
It's quite distinctive in aroma, but the dominant sherry character also masks it to some extent.
I thought of this as a malt that enjoys the cask's aroma rather than the distillery style.
