Bottle #ロイヤルロッホナガ―(ROYAL LOCHNAGAR)
Rum cask, as expected, there are many who like it.
Royal Lochnagar ROYAL LOCHNAGAR 1996-2013 17yo CADENHEAD RUM CASK 57.4%
one of 606 bottles, RUM CASK
The aroma is strong but not harsh, with lemon peel, white flowers, fresh young grass, slightly spoiled green strawberries, rugged barley notes, tequila-like qualities. When drinking, it's spicy and citrusy with a sense of young plants, a well-balanced sweetness and acidity, a powdery texture spreading across the entire tongue with the umami of barley, and a slightly spicy, oily long finish.
【Good/Very Good】
This is the Royal Lochnagar 1996, 17-year-old rum cask bottled by Cadenhead in 2013.
The aroma is fresh, with notes of lemon peel, florals, and young grass, while also having a strong rugged barley character.
Overall, the impression was strongly reminiscent of tequila rather than rum.
When drinking, it has a similarly fresh nuance as the aroma, with refined yet substantial sweetness. The condensed sensation accompanied by a powdery texture was very impressive, and it had a slight chewiness that enhanced the umami.
It seems similar to the Springbank rum cask I previously introduced, as it shared many elements from the same type of barrel.
It resembles the same barrel series from Bank, yet it felt more like tequila than rum, which was a bit surprising.
Perhaps because I lack experience with rum, I couldn't perceive it properly.
This made me realize again that I've recently come to appreciate rum casks, and now I'm eager to try various rums.
