Sherry cask... isn't it?
Isle of Arran ISLE OF ARRAN 1996-2015 18yo JACK WIEBERS WHISKY WORLD 'OLD TRAIN LINE' #2308 48.9%
One of 305 bottles, BOURBON CASK(??)
The aroma is rich sherry, bitter chocolate, coffee, prunes, a hint of balsamic vinegar, and astringent herbs.
When drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel, expanding into dried fruits like prunes and raisins, bitter chocolate, a strong tannic astringency with a rich sweetness, some grassy bitterness, slightly lingering but the finish is long.
[Good/Very Good]
This is an Arran 1996, 18-year-old whisky bottled in 2015 by Jack Wiebers Whisky World from the Old Train Line series.
Although the label states 'Bourbon Cask,' it has a sherry cask aroma, and this bottle is dominated by that characteristic.
I had recently realized that some long-matured bourbons can have a sherry cask-like flavor, but this one definitely feels like a sherry cask.
Perhaps they just copied and pasted the previous label without changes?
The nuances of concentrated fruits and balsamic vinegar are clearly present, but what stood out was the stronger bitterness and astringency from notes like bitter chocolate, coffee, and astringent herbs.
I also sensed some bitterness and slightly rough elements, but due to that influence, I felt more depth and drinkability than the alcohol strength would suggest.
