The aroma is slightly shy and expands slowly with orange peel, gradually spreading passion fruit and lychee, vanilla, a moderate barley note, brine and strong peat.
On the palate, tropical fruits like passion fruit, orange, fruity sweetness with a good balance, savory barley umami, slightly briny, strong smoky peat, and the finish is long and peaty.
[Good/Very Good]
This Bowmore 1996, aged for 19 years, was bottled by A.D.RATTRAY for THE WHISKY HOOP and released in March. Initially, the aroma seemed slightly reserved compared to its specifications, but gradually revealed a fruity passion fruit character. It also showcased a strong peaty note reminiscent of Islay's coastal influence in a good bourbon cask nuance.
When tasted, it delivered the expected tropical sensation with diverse fruits, fruity sweetness, barley umami, and a solid peat presence. This is a Bowmore where both fruitiness and peat assert themselves strongly.
Unlike post-2000 Bowmores, which often feel thin or paper-like, this one met expectations with the rich body and Islay cask strength character.
