Aberfeldy 1996-2015 Official #6978 Distillery Exclusive
Bottle #アバフェルディ(ABERFELDY)
This is the last part of the cask. The aging period has increased, and the flavor has slightly changed.
Aberfeldy ABERFELDY 1994-2015 OB #6978 56.9%
The aroma is good sherry, ripe plums, berry jam, heated apples, bitter chocolate, a gradual smoky barley sensation, honey, with an oily richness. When drinking, it has a smooth, viscous texture that spreads aromatically, with strong sweetness from honey and jam, a tannic astringency and subtle bitterness that deepens the flavor. Full-bodied, rich, with a long finish.
【Very Good】
This is a 1994 single cask from Aberfeldy Distillery, number #6978.
I drank a bottle that was bottled last year and found it very delicious, but recently a friend bought this one from Aberfeldy. It's an interesting bottle because it was sold across two years, so even with the same cask number, the bottling year differs. It seems to be the very last part of the cask.
If the contents had gradually decreased while remaining in the cask, naturally the contact area with the cask and oxidation process would have changed. Comparing the same cask's aging differences, especially between the beginning and end of the cask, is a rare experience and intriguing.
Overall, it's essentially the same as before: a good sherry cask with Aberfeldy's characteristic honey notes, but I felt the woodiness slightly increased, making the body thick yet slightly less smooth.
There's no doubt it's a delicious bottle, and it's also interesting to see how this additional aging component will affect the bottle over time after bottling.
Both bottles are still unopened, and I have one here as well as in Gaienmae. I'd like to reconsider them after about 10 years.
But since it's a full-bodied cask strength that seems to have longevity, maybe keeping it for more than 10 years would be fine too.
I hope this blog continues until then... (laughs)
