It had a certain charm and was even better than expected.
Isle of Jura ISLE OF JURA 1997-2013 SAMAROLI #9111, 9112 45%
one of 670 bottles
The aroma is slightly rustic, oily and heavy, slowly unfolding with a concentrated grapefruit, matcha, vanilla, slightly clay-like earthiness and smoky peat.
When drinking it, the soft mouthfeel expands into a powdery concentration and chewy texture, with citrus and apple, a balanced sweetness and acidity, a rustic clay-like quality, and a touch of tar.
[Good/Very Good]
Samaroli bottled this Isle of Jura 1997 in 2013, approximately 16 years old.
Despite the water addition, it initially had a closed aroma but slowly opened up with a sense of weight.
At the same time, it had a powdery fruitiness and a slightly clay-like earthy quality often found in Jura, along with a solid peatiness.
Possibly due to the water addition and some aging after bottling, it had a sense of unity despite its specs, with good flavor balance and a drinkable feel.
