New Release: Glenrothes 1997-2016 18yo GM Exclusive for The Whisky Hoop #18717 57.1%
Bottle #グレンロセス(GLENROTHES)
The nose had a solid bourbon character with orange oil, vanilla, coconut, a touch of cream, gentle grain notes, and rich oak. On the palate, it delivered strong orange oil, apple, gradually spicy elements, vanilla, coconut, a slightly creamy texture with honeyed sweetness, and a tightening oak finish. The overall impression was rich and long-lasting.
This Glenrothes 1997, aged for 18 years, was bottled by GM for The Whisky Hoop. It was released in December 2016.
The characteristics of recent high-quality bourbon casks, such as orange oil and coconut notes, were clearly present in both the aroma and flavor. The rich oak presence was also notable. There was a honeyed, full-bodied sweetness that balanced the slightly woody oak tightness, giving it the impression of a good Speyside malt reminiscent of recent high-quality bourbon casks.
While high-quality Glenrothes often exhibits creamy, smooth nuances, this bottle only faintly conveyed creaminess. However, I believe the texture will become more rounded over time, and the oak character may soften with aging. Personally, I prefer a slightly less pronounced cask influence, but the current finish is well-balanced. In any case, this malt is one I would enjoy slowly both before and after opening.
