Springbank SPRINGBANK 1997-2016 19yo CADENHEAD WAREHOUSE TASTING 59.0% Sherry Butt
Bottle #スプリングバンク(SPRINGBANK)
I was overwhelmed by its intense personality and thickness. Springbank SPRINGBANK 1997-2016 19yo CADENHEAD WAREHOUSE TASTING 59.0% Sherry Butt The aroma is rich sherry, plum, dried fruit berries, bitter chocolate, toasty barley candy, a briny and seaweed-like mineral quality with strong peat, earthy characteristics like leaf mold and tanned leather, and very rich. When you drink it, the smooth mouthfeel expands into a very aromatic concentration of berries jam-like fruits, with a strong peat that gives off slightly creosote or tar sensations, a clear leather feel, quite earthy, with briny notes like seaweed and oysters, dashi-like seafood stock, umami from roasted barley, deep woody character. There are also some roughness and faint bitterness but it is rich with a long, long finish. [Very Good, Interesting] This Springbank 1997, 19-year-old Warehouse Tasting is available for purchase at Cadenhead's shop. Cadenhead shares the same capital as Springbank Distillery, so this bottle is almost official. Like the distillery's hand-filled casks, it seems like they change cask after cask but this was purchased fairly recently. As described above, the rich sherry character and the original spirit's personality are in perfect balance, creating an amazing diversity and depth of aroma. Although it is labeled as Springbank, the peatiness is so strong that it feels like Longrow. It has a mineral quality and brininess typical of Campbeltown, as well as an earthy feel and leather-like texture that are rarely found in young new releases. Personally, I felt it is one of the best new releases recently and has a similar nuance to BBR's Longrow 1992, which is highly recommended for whisky enthusiasts. However, this malt is a collection of strong individual characteristics with each component asserting itself quite strongly. While it's very interesting and gives a sense of great potential, there is still some roughness and lack of cohesion. I feel this bottle has the potential to reach the quality level of legendary bottles that are now considered legends, if it is aged for about 20 years more. I would really like to buy and keep this bottle somewhere, but the Warehouse Tasting is extremely rare. It can only be purchased at shops and rarely appears on auction. Is it being sold somewhere, I wonder... #Springbank (SPRINGBANK)
