Indeed, the bourbon cask seems to better convey the house style. Clynelish CLYNELISH 1997-2016 19yo GM EXCLUSIVE for THE WHISKY HOOP #6489 55.4% one of 257 bottles, 1st Fill American Hogshead The aroma features orange oil, apricot jam, beeswax wax, vanilla cream, and nuts. On the palate, it has a slight viscosity with orange cream, honeyed sweetness, malty umami, and some feintiness, but it remains oily with a long finish. [Good/Very Good] This Clynelish 1997, aged for 19 years, was bottled by GM for THE WHISKY HOOP. It was released in July of this year. Filling Clynelish for THE WHISKY HOOP is the second time following the previous sherry cask, and this one uses a first-fill American hogshead. Although it's a first-fill, the bourbon cask nuances are not overly intrusive, and I didn't detect any woody characteristics. I sensed notes reminiscent of beeswax wax in the aroma, and while it wasn't overly syrupy, it did have a viscous texture. I detected slightly feint-like nuances, but this seems somewhat typical for Clynelish and wasn't an unpleasant element. Indeed, compared to sherry casks, bourbon casks better convey the house style and seem more aligned with Clynelish's character.
