Bowmore BOWMORE 1998-2014 WEMYSS MALTS 46%, one of 737 bottles, BUTT
Bottle #ボウモア(BOWMORE)
Looking forward to the sulfur notes dissipating. Bowmore BOWMORE 1998-2014 WEMYSS MALTS 46% one of 737 bottles, BUTT The aroma features strong sherry, clear dashi soy sauce notes, seafood stock, sulfur, a pronounced roasted barley character, mixed berry jam, dates, seaweed minerals, thick peat. On the palate, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel, expanding into strong sherry, jam-like sweetness, intense soy saltiness, caramelized nuts, and sulfur notes reminiscent of dashi soy sauce. While the sulfur is present, it's not unpleasant. The finish is rich with meaty umami, seafood depth, and a pronounced iodine-tinged peat. The aftertaste is sulfuric but sweet and long. [Good] Recently bottled by Wemyss, this Bowmore 1988 has aged for approximately 16 years in a sherry butt. The dilution process resulted in an outturn of over 700 bottles, a relatively large number. From the start, strong sherry dominates the aroma, accompanied by notable sulfur elements. There are clear dashi soy sauce nuances, a roasted character, followed by fruity jam and dried fruit notes alongside peat. Upon drinking, the sulfur is less noticeable than the aroma, with a strong jam and caramel sweetness, along with umami from seafood and meatiness. The flavor is unexpectedly rich, featuring strong iodine notes in the peat. After considering both positive and negative aspects, I ultimately gave it a 'Good' rating because it was enjoyable to drink. I believe the sulfur will eventually dissipate, so I'd like to purchase this intentionally to observe how its depth and complexity evolve over time through bottle aging or changes within the bottle. #Bowmore (BOWMORE)
