Bowmore BOWMORE 1999 OB HAND-FILLED 53% Bourbon Cask
The aroma is vibrant, with grapefruit zest, passion fruit, a juicy quality, plum-like notes reminiscent of plum wine, vanilla, young yet pleasant barley character, brine, strong smoke and peat. On the palate, it has a smooth mouthfeel, expanding into a richly aromatic profile with ample fruity characteristics similar to the aroma, pineapple notes emerging, vanilla, good oak. While the fruitiness slightly overshadows the peat, it remains firmly present. A long, fruity and peaty finish.
【Very Good】
As you may know, Mr. Yamagoka recently bottled this Bowmore 1999 hand-filled at the distillery. Previously, all the Bowmore hand-fillings I've tasted were strongly influenced by sherry casks, making this bourbon cask version my first experience. From the aroma to the flavor, the tropical fruit characteristics typical of Bowmore—such as grapefruit zest and passion fruit—were exceptionally pronounced, offering a very juicy profile. While the youthful Islay cask strength peat character is present, it was clearly outshone by the overwhelming fruitiness. Notes of vanilla and good oak typical of high-quality bourbon casks were present, without any rough or woody elements. The body was well-structured with a fruity intoxication, and the finish lingered long. While sherry cask hand-fillings are often excellent, this bourbon cask may offer a more satisfying experience of Bowmore's characteristic juicy fruitiness.
