Recent Release: Glen Garioch 1999-2013 Official Sherry Cask Batch No. 30
Bottle #グレンギリー(GLENGARIOCH)
Rich, sweet sherry; looking forward to its future changes.
Glen Garioch 1999-2013 Official Bottling Sherry Cask Matured Batch No. 30, 56.3% ABV - Oloroso Sherry Casks
The aroma is rich, sweet sherry with strong prunes, dried fruits, chocolate, Shaoxing wine (a type of Chinese liquor), herbs reminiscent of bouquet garni, and a slight sulfurous note. Upon drinking, the dominant sherry is smooth, spreading into a rich flavor with viscosity. Notes of prunes, chocolate-covered orange, and a jam-like flat sweetness are prominent. A good tannic bitterness from American coffee, herbs, and a faint sulfur and mead-like nuance with a sweet, long finish.
【Good/Very Good】
This is the official Glen Garioch bottling from the Batch series, released in 2013 and currently circulating overseas. The color is dark with a strong sweet sherry character, dominant in both aroma and flavor. Impressive were the rich fruitiness of prunes and dried fruits, as well as herbal nuances. Though slightly flat and thick in sweetness, the good tannic bitterness prevents it from ending flat. There are sulfurous elements, but this type of mild sulfur tends to dissipate after bottling or opening, leaving only thickness. Thus, positive changes are expected in the future.
At this point, I think it's a rare sweet malt. At home, I would drink it normally, but as mentioned earlier, I'm curious about how this flat sweetness and sulfurous nuance will evolve in the bottle. I ended up purchasing it. Recently, I haven't had many opportunities to buy bottles of sherry from specific distilleries other than this...
This Batch series (and the mystery of its batch numbers) was previously introduced with a bourbon cask version. As I mentioned at that time, since it's a distillery owned by a Japanese company, I hope they will allow such interesting products to circulate in Japan as well.
