The aroma featured ripe apricot, baked apple, vanilla, pronounced peat, ginger, a subtle papery quality. On the palate, tropical passion fruit notes were prominent alongside the sweetness of apricot jam, with a rich, full-bodied texture. The papery quality gradually expanded, complemented by strong peat character and a long finish.

This new release from Dewar's Rattray is a 13-year-old Bowmore aged between 2000-2014. The aroma leaned more towards apricot and apple nuances rather than the typical tropical notes of Bowmore, with strong vanilla characteristics from the bourbon cask and a slight grainy quality reminiscent of paper and ginger. The palate delivered distinct tropical passion fruit flavors, along with a rich, dense sweetness akin to apricot jam. While the papery quality was more pronounced, the robust peat character somewhat masked it, making it less of a concern. Indeed, this era's vintages often carry some degree of papery quality regardless of tropical intensity. It's intriguing to consider how these characteristics might evolve with further aging.
