On the palate, it has an exciting attack with vanilla, slight viscosity and a rich honey sweetness, malty umami, some woody notes but with good oak tannins and a subtle smoky finish. [Good/Very Good] This is part of the official 4th anniversary set from Whisky Shop W., featuring Yamazaki and HAKUSHU. First, the HAKUSHU: The nose suggests a quality American white oak bourbon cask with clear notes of vanilla, orange and green apple. The malty character is present but not overpowering. On tasting, it shows some roughness as expected, but the bourbon-like nuances are strong and pleasant. The rich honey sweetness is a positive impression. There's also a slight raw wood character, but overall it has a rich oak aroma. Though distilled in 2000, this is clearly selected for direct store sales. It appears they chose a very well-matured cask.
