Aroma: Passion fruit, plum, orange, light sherry notes, refined barley, seawind and seaweed, strong peat. Upon drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel, tropical fruits become more pronounced in the latter half, fruity gentle sweetness, dashi-like umami, strong peat, and a long finish.
【Good/Very Good】
This is BOWMORE's official non-vintage SURF.
It is believed to have been circulated around the early 2000s.
From the aroma, it includes BOWMORE's characteristic tropical notes like passion fruit, as well as a variety of fruits, refined barley, the oceanic nuances typical of Islay, and a strong peat. When tasted, it is similarly fruity and peaty, with a dashi-like umami, and surprisingly long finish for its alcohol content.
Although it's non-vintage, it doesn't show much youthfulness and was pleasant to drink without any off-putting characteristics. Previously, I had the impression that BOWMORE was somewhat generic despite being delicious with its house style. However, upon re-tasting, I felt it was a highly refined BOWMORE from the 1990s distillation, with some improvements that must have occurred during aging in the bottle.
