New Release: Dalwhinnie 2001-2015 Wemyss Malts 46%
Bottle #ダルユーイン(DAILUAINE)
A short-matured malt that is surprisingly delicious.
Dalwhinnie DAILUAINE 2001-2015 WEMYSS MALTS 46%, one of 391 bottles, HOGSHEAD
The aroma is elegant with notes of green apple and fresh orange, a touch of white wine, vanilla, grassy hints, pleasant oak, and a gentle barley character.
On the palate, it has a smooth mouthfeel with sweet orange and honey-like flavors, a soft richness, and a lingering finish of pleasant oak and honey.
【Good/Very Good】
Newly released from Wemyss is Dalwhinnie 2001, aged for approximately 14 years.
While most Wemyss bottles are diluted, this one is also at 46% ABV.
The aroma has a very bourbon-cask-like image, surprisingly diverse in its complexity.
I initially thought it might be a barrel-aged whisky given the maturity, but it's actually from a Hogshead.
Upon tasting, there was no sense of rushed aging, resulting in a surprisingly comfortable drinking experience that fits the Hogshead character.
This might be due to the skillful dilution.
As I've written before, I feel that Wemyss's diluted malts are among the most sensibly crafted by modern bottlers.
While it's slightly pricier than expected for its specifications, it's a very drinkable and delicious malt.
