Bottle #グレンスコシア(GLENSCOTIA)
The second of the wonderful official bottles that make you feel like The Whisky Hoop. Glen Scotia GLENSCOTIA 2001-2015 14yo OB Limited Edition for The Whisky Hoop #115 54.6% One of 268 bottles The aroma features lemon cream, vanilla, strong Gorgonzola cheese, tar-like peat, pronounced malty sweetness, honey, earthy burdock root, oysters, and minerals. On the palate, it has a slightly viscous texture with powerful intensity that spreads gradually, revealing lemon and faint peach notes, rich malty umami with a chewy texture, sweet depth, strong peat with tar undertones, and a long finish. [Good/Very Good, Interesting] This is an official Glen Scotia 2001 bottling aged for 14 years, bottled by The Whisky Hoop. Following the previous release from 2003, this is another bottling of the 2001 distillation. The aroma shows a similarly rich malty character as the 2003 bottling, with creamy nuances. However, the peat, tar, and cheese elements are more pronounced here. The palate delivers a concentrated malty umami with a chewy texture, echoing the aroma's cheese and peat notes. The unexpected harmony of richness and drinkability made this a standout experience. If blind tasted, I would almost certainly identify it as Longrow from Campbeltown. While the 2003 bottling resembles recent Springbank, this one feels closer to Longrow. It's fascinating how the Campbeltown character clearly emerges here! Despite being from the 2000s vintage and not aged for an exceptionally long time, both bottlings show no signs of immaturity. Their diverse aromas and surprisingly cohesive drinkability left a strong impression. Though somewhat understated, Glen Scotia is a hidden gem of Campbeltown. This official single cask release for Japan showcases The Whisky Hoop's unique ability to present such rare bottlings, independent of trends. The quality exceeded my expectations based on the specifications. This release has left me eagerly anticipating future offerings from both the distillery and The Whisky Hoop.
