Two types of young official Glenfarclas releases for the Netherlands, released simultaneously. Following yesterday's release, this is the 2001 vintage. Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 2001-2015 14yo OB for The Whisky Fair #1477,1480 52.8% Refill Sherry Hogsheads The aroma features recent sherry notes, caramelized nuts, American coffee, dry orange, a strong young barley character, and a solid planty quality. On the palate, it has an unexpectedly smooth mouthfeel with berry jam sweetness and dry orange, young barley notes with umami, caramelized nuts, a moderate cask tannin and planty bitterness that tightens the flavor profile, with a slightly oily finish. [Good] This official bottling was released for the Netherlands Whisky Fair. Following last year's 2000 vintage release, this time it's the 2001 vintage. This is a vatting of two refill sherry hogsheads. The base is similar to the 2000 vintage with recent sherry nuances, but the young cask strength has a less aggressive attack and stronger planty notes, which were impressive. The tannins are well-balanced, and compared to the 2000 vintage, it felt more cohesive. Briefly evaluating both casks, they are essentially recent sherry cask Glenfarclas with some immaturity, but the difference between identical specs and different specs vatting shows a fascinating variation in cohesion. As an added note, considering the trusted Whisky Fair, it's natural that these specifications contain quality bottlings. There are certainly even younger and more immature casks still sleeping in the distillery, reminding us that while what we drink as single malts is certainly selected, how strictly selected the single cask bottlings are becomes clear. #Glenfarclas (GLENFARCLAS)
