As expected for a well-known bar, they have selected a good cask.
Bowmore BOWMORE 2002 10yo Harry's Selection 43%
The aroma is elegant, with a strong tropical fruit note of passionfruit, a light peach, and smoky peat without harshness. On the palate, it is smooth with a clear tropical fruit flavor, peach-like natural water, and a strong smoky peat note. There is also a gentle umami flavor from dashi, with a soft and pleasant finish.
[Good/Very Good]
This is a diluted version of Bowmore 2002, aged for 10 years, bottled for HARRY'S NEW YORK BAR.
The tropical character of Bowmore, particularly the passionfruit notes, is clearly present in both aroma and flavor. The light peach-like fruitiness was also a pleasant surprise.
The smoky peat is strong, as expected for a younger whisky, and the umami from dashi adds to its complexity. Although young, the overall balance is good.
Bowmore distillates from 2000 onwards often give me a paper-like sensation, but in this case, the cask selection seems to have been excellent. The fruity notes are strong and there is no paper-like sensation.
The dilution has helped achieve a good balance for an Islay malt, with no roughness and a clear umami flavor. It gives the impression of being well-crafted.
