New Release: Tomatin 2002-2015 13 Year Old Official Hand Bottling #2036
Bottle #トマーティン(TOMATIN)
A young sherry hand bottling, it was youthful but not bad.
Tomatin TOMATIN 2002-2015 13yo OB HAND BOTTLING #2036 57% Oloroso Sherry Cask
The aroma features vanilla, unripe plums, orange peel, light caramel, a youthful and strong grainy note, and honey.
On the palate, it is spicy with a tingling sensation, a rich apricot tea flavor, honeyed sweetness, oak, nuts, and the savory umami of young grains. Rich, spicy, with a grainy finish.
[Good]
Recently bottled at the distillery, this official hand-bottled Tomatin 2002, aged for 13 years.
Although labeled as Oloroso Sherry Cask, the aroma and flavor suggest it may be a second-fill or later.
While there is some sherry character, the aroma and flavor have distinct elements that feel somewhat disjointed, lacking cohesion between the sherry influence and the original spirit's youthful grainy umami.
It is still young, with the cask and original spirit each asserting their own nuances, but there was no unpleasant rawness. It was enjoyable and intriguing in its own way.
