【Good/Very Good】
This Calila 2003, aged for 10 years, was bottled exclusively for La Maison du Whisky by GM. It exhibits a bold and vibrant aroma typical of bourbon barrels, with smoky and seafood stock notes characteristic of an Islay malt. Hints of vanilla, orange, green apple, and tropical elements like pineapple are also present. While the barley notes show a touch of youthfulness, the aroma is surprisingly complex for its specifications.
The palate mirrors the nose with a vibrant fruity and peaty profile, ample barley umami, and a honeyed sweetness. The finish is long and satisfying. Despite being a first-fill bourbon barrel, there are no rough or woody edges to the flavor.
Though not fully matured, it demonstrates a high level of balance and complexity, exceeding expectations for its specifications. This is certainly a bottle worth acquiring if the price is reasonable.
