The sherry character was uncertain about how it would develop in the future.
GlenTurret GLENTURRET 2004-2015 10yo GM EXCLUSIVE for JIS #384 57.0%
One of 324 bottles, Refill Sherry Hogshead
The aroma had a recent sherry character that envelops everything, with a danish topped with plum jam, young barley notes and a faint planty character, slightly spirituous, caramel and nuts. Initially there was a soy sauce-like quality but it fades.
When drinking, the recent sherry character is strong, with a spicy, youthful attack and barley notes, slightly sweet-salty soy sauce-like sensation, leaving a youthful aftertaste.
【Okay/Good】
This is an exclusive GlenTurret 2004, 10-year-old release bottled by GM for the Japan Import System. The first impression of the aroma is a solid sherry character, combined with youthful strong barley notes that gave me a danish-like nuance. I also thought it contained some soy sauce-like and sulfury elements.
When drinking, the recent sherry character is still strong, with a slightly immature, sharp attack and youthful barley notes. I also felt the soy sauce-like quality similar to the aroma.
It is a normal malt that can be drunk as is, but it's difficult to say it's particularly delicious. It feels like a young sherry cask whisky with some recent sulfury elements.
Now, there's no unity between the sherry and barley characters, with some prickliness from youth. But how will this develop in the future?
Normally, I think the prickliness would soften and become more viscous, while the barley character would mature and develop unity with the sherry character.
I also expect the slightly sulfury parts to transform into depth and thickness, and I think it will taste better than it does now.
Recently, releases with clear sherry character have been few except for specific distillery official bottlings. This kind of single cask bottler release is especially true. However, there are limits to the old ones.
Thinking about how to drink this in the future makes me consider how to approach such whiskies.
If it were as delicious as a high school graduate first draft pick, I would scout it without hesitation. But this type, which is warming the bench in the minors or could rise to the majors depending on growth, is a bit confusing.
