New Release: Pulteney 2004-2016 12 Year Old Official Bottling for La Maison du Whisky 60th Anniversary #127 61.3%
Bottle #プルトニー(PULTENEY)
A somewhat assertive whisky, but time will significantly improve it.
Pulteney PULTENEY 2004-2016 12yo OB for La Maison du Whisky 60th ANNIVERSARY #127 61.3%
One of 594 bottles, Spanish Oak ex-sherry cask
The aroma has a strong recent sherry character, plum jam, bitter chocolate or American coffee, black sugar, and herbs.
When tasted, it has a strong sherry character, a spicy tingling sensation, and a pronounced jam-like sweetness balanced by a firm coffee bitterness. It has depth and a long, slightly bitter herbal finish.
[Good/Very Good]
This is an official bottling of Pulteney 2004, matured for 12 years, released by La Maison du Whisky to commemorate their 60th anniversary.
It has a deep color, matured in Spanish oak sherry casks.
While sherry casks from 2000s distillates have become more common recently, it's clear that even Maison-level bottlers are now selecting high-quality casks like this.
There is a very strong European oak sherry nuance, almost entirely dominating the aroma. However, the cask seems to be of good quality, resulting in a surprisingly diverse flavor profile for its specifications.
It has intense sweetness and a pronounced bitterness, creating a slightly conflicting impression. However, it seems like these elements will harmonize over time.
This might be the most extreme sherried Pulteney I've ever encountered.
As it's a Pulteney, the original spirit character should be strong, typical of Highland malts. I have a feeling that as the sherry notes mellow with age, the original spirit character will revive like a phoenix, elevating this whisky to new heights. I'm looking forward to observing its development with interest.
