Bottle #グレンガイル(GLENGYLE)
A change-up with a classic aroma profile, BEIJA FLOR is impressive indeed. Glen Gyle (GLENGYLE) Kilcherran 2005-2015 10yo OB for BEIJA FLOR 55.1%, one of 282 bottles, Chateau Lafitte Cask. The aroma features fresh citrus, youthful barley and young leaves, vanilla, white flowers, oak, with peat in the background. On the palate, citrus and orange emerge, followed by a gradual spicy warmth, a concentrated texture, fresh barley with a chewy mouthfeel, citrus sweetness and acidity, saltiness, oak, and a long finish with peat. 【Good/Very Good】 Bottled by BEIJA FLOR in Italy, this is a Kilcherran-labeled Glen Gyle from 2005, aged for 10 years. Interestingly, the back label casually mentions it was matured in a cask from Chateau Lafitte, one of the Bordeaux's five great chateaux. Initially, I didn't notice it was a wine barrel. Wine cask-matured whiskies often have distinctive fruitiness and sweetness, but due to its short maturation period, I didn't find it particularly noteworthy. On the second tasting, knowing the cask specifications, the tasting notes remained unchanged. The freshness is evident in both aroma and flavor, yet surprisingly, there's little sense of immaturity or alcohol strength, making it a pleasant drinking experience. It has citrus fruits, some green plant notes, and feels like it's just one step away from the slightly overripe strawberry I associate with Springbank. The concentrated, chewy malt sweetness is balanced well with the young spirit's sweet and sour notes, saltiness, moderate oakiness, and a peaty finish. It's a well-balanced Campbeltown malt, reminiscent of recent Springbank releases. While I remember Murray McDavid's releases using five great chateaux casks feeling forced in flavor and pricing, BEIJA FLOR is different. Their intention was clearly to select a classic Kilcherran, resulting in this cask choice. As always, their excellent taste is evident. Honestly, I shouldn't rate it this way, but recently, just seeing 'BEIJA FLOR' makes me feel like it's automatically delicious. I've come to trust them so much. (笑) #Glen Gyle (GLENGYLE)
