Does Scapa 2005 have a mysterious aroma?
Scapa SCAPA 2005-2017 Gordon & MacPhail Distillery Labels 43%
The aroma has fresh lemon, apple, grassy notes, vanilla, a light mushroom soup, and a moderate maltiness.
When drinking it, the mouthfeel is soft, with a gentle sweetness of apple, a light saltiness, and some alcohol presence but not harsh.
[Good, Interesting]
This Scapa 2005 bottled recently by GM and purchased locally is a watered-down type, aged for about 12 years.
Although the aging period isn't long, due to the water addition, it lacks harshness and has fresh citrus and vanilla notes. It feels like it contains many elements typical of refill bourbon casks from the vatting process.
Additionally, there was a unique nuance reminiscent of mushroom soup, which felt more distinct compared to the same Scapa 2005 released last year for Maison du Whisky.
This bottle may have been thinned out through vatting, but it might contain casks similar to the sister cask of the same specification as Maison.
Although the background for these elements is unclear, it's distinctive enough that one might find themselves searching again when encountering another Scapa 2005.
