New Release: GlenScotia 2006-2016 9 Year Old Official Distillery Edition No.003 #536 56.9%
Bottle #グレンスコシア(GLENSCOTIA)
The aroma was quite unusual. GlenScotia is interesting, isn't it?
GlenScotia GLENSCOSIA 2006-2016 9yo Own Bottling Single Cask Distillery Edition No.003 #536 56.9%
The aroma had a juniper-like citrus note, green apple candy, slightly artificial nuances, sharp and light. When tasted, it had the same juniper berry notes from gin, a clean sweetness and acidity, a metallic touch like canned fruits, and the alcohol content wasn't felt.
【Interesting】
This is a 9-year-old GlenScotia 2006 Single Cask, limited to the distillery. The distillery edition number is 003, and with a release date of May 2016, it means this Single Cask has been on sale for over a year. Considering the recent malt boom and that neighboring Springbank also sees quite a few tourists, it feels a bit lonely. Also, there were supposed to be 001 and 002 editions, so it seems the distillery has been doing limited editions for quite some time—something I didn't know at all.
Anyway, focusing on the important part, it's very unique. In fact, I was surprised by the strong gin-like citrus nuances in the first impression without even nosing. This nuance is also present when tasted, with clean sweetness and acidity, giving a sharp and cool impression. Depth or diversity wasn't really felt, and it didn't feel like a barrel-aged brown spirit. It's not necessarily unpalatable, but its uniqueness made it hard to know how to appreciate it as a malt. It might be quite delicious if diluted with soda or tonic. Considering recent Scotia bottles are mostly milky and mellow, I might have been expecting that style, which made this even more surprising. I'll try to drink it again before it's gone.
