The aroma features grapefruit, strong young alcohol notes, intense peat with iodine, and a bold attack. On the palate, there's a citrusy fruitiness with refreshing sweetness and acidity, along with smoky peat. The flavor is somewhat monotonous but strong.
[Good]
This new release from Cask & Thistle is a short maturation Laphroaig 2006. The aroma brings crisp grapefruit alongside strong barley and peat notes, with a slight youthful alcohol character. Upon tasting, there's a refreshing citrus nuance and a strong smoky peat sensation. While some fruitiness from the refill cask is detectable, the overall profile still feels quite young. As maturation progresses and the peat and barley notes soften while the alcohol character fades, I believe this could develop into a more favorable Laphroaig. It might also undergo pleasant changes through bottle aging. While the current underdevelopment is undeniable, for Laphroaig enthusiasts, this was an enjoyable bottle offering a taste of the maturation process.
