As expected, the cask selection produced a superior result. Kilchoman KILCHOMAN 2009-2014 4yo OB FEIS ISLE 2014 #328&329/2009 58.7% one of 525 bottles, Fino Cask Finish The aroma features grapefruit and nuts, fresh white flowers, a vegetal note, vanilla, strong peat, and a pronounced grain character. On the palate, it offers a moderate level of spice, a rich honey sweetness, slight grassy and slightly bitter notes, strong peat, youthfulness with some oiliness and a long finish. 【Good/Very Good】 The bottle prepared by Kilchoman Distillery for this year's Islay Festival was a 4-year-old distillate from 2009, finished in Fino casks. The aroma reveals citrus fruits and floral notes, with a youthful, strong grain character and nutty undertones, of course with a clear peat presence. Upon tasting, it delivers a rich honey sweetness, showing some youthful grain and vegetal notes, but ultimately defined by strong peat and oiliness, resulting in a delicious drinking experience. Given its status as a festival-exclusive bottle, it feels like they特意 selected a particularly well-crafted specimen for this release. Considering Kilchoman uses Islay-grown malt and floor malting, along with the impression that they use quality casks, I'm actually quite excited to see how this whisky might develop with further aging, potentially becoming exceptionally delicious.
