【Good/Very Good】
This new release, bottled for The Whisky Exchange, is an official bottling of Kilchoman 2010, matured for four years and finished in Pedro Ximénez casks.
While the barley character does exhibit a youthful quality, there's no unpleasant rawness. The fruitiness from the PX finish seamlessly integrates with the overall profile.
Notes of plum and yuzu-like citrus fruits, their sweetness, a briny quality reminiscent of the sea, savory barley depth, and assertive Islay peat all come together in a well-balanced finish that significantly elevates the whisky's maturity.
Indeed, The Exchange selects excellent casks. Recently, Kilchoman's cask management has shown increasing promise.
Ten years since operations began, production is stable. They clearly understand the unique character of their spirit, for better or worse.
