Recently released from Chichibu Distillery, this is a peated type distilled in 2011. It has become increasingly popular recently, selling out quickly despite having nearly 6,000 bottles. The aroma features fruity and milky-creamy nuances like banana milk and coconut milk, with strong oak notes and assertive peat. As expected for a young bottle, the barley character is prominent but without much greenness. When drinking, it's undeniably spicy and tingling, yet the viscous texture and milky feel mask the alcohol's harshness. The sweetness has depth, with barley umami and strong oak notes, but without the typical raw or green undertones. In both Scotch and Japanese whiskies, peated malts tend to avoid off-flavors even when young-aged. It was a remarkably refined whisky.
