LONGROW LONGROW 'The TASTING ROOM' OB bottled in 2014 48.0%
・Aroma:
Fresh yet strong and thick, with nuances of Gorgonzola cheese, robust and thick barley notes, powerful and strong peat with a smoky dominance, orange, vanilla, brininess, oysters, mineral, slightly creamy, fish stock and a touch of soy sauce.
・Flavor:
Not very stimulating but richly expansive, with a concentrated texture slightly powdery and a solid bite, intense lemon and umami-rich barley, briny as in the aroma with oyster-like qualities, smoky with a charcoal-like quality, sweet and rich with a faint acidity, strong saltiness, oily.
・Aftertaste:
Cheese and smoky strong peat, with a long-lasting rich umami and barley sensation.
・Dilution:
The grapefruit-like quality and powdery concentration become stronger, resembling a delicious Laphroaig.
・Overall Review:
The cheese-like quality reminiscent of Gorgonzola, strong peat with a smoky dominance, and the brininess and oyster nuances typical of LONGROW are well encapsulated in this bottle. Although it's unlikely to have a long aging period, strangely the alcohol content is lower than expected, resulting in a calm alcohol sensation with a solid concentration. Particularly after dilution, the powdery concentration becomes even stronger, enhancing the nuance reminiscent of my favorite delicious Laphroaig. [Good/Very Good]
This is the LONGROW from The Tasting Room, sold at the shop of Cadenhead, which shares the same capital as Springbank Distillery. There's no vintage notation, and it was bottled in 2014. The alcohol content is 48%, which is surprisingly low for what's likely a short-aged cask strength. As a result, it's smooth despite not having been bottled for very long. It has a concentrated texture with a slightly powdery feel, strong peat, and the LONGROW characteristics of cheese-like and briny oyster nuances are clearly present. The thick malt and its umami are also noticeable, with a strong cask influence that has a savory quality but no unpleasantness, making it straightforwardly delicious. Honestly, I bought this bottle at a low price without much expectation, but I was surprised by how delicious it was.
