New Release: Laphroaig Official 'Cardis' for Feis Ile 2016, 51.6%
Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
I think Madeira pairs well with Laphroaig's recent bourbon.
As I forgot to take a photo at the bar, I'll substitute with an unopened bottle from home.
Laphroaig LAPHROAIG OB 'CARDIS' for FEIS ILE 2016, 51.6% Bottled in 2016, MADEIRA CASK
The aroma is gently sweet with plum, grape skin, orange marmalade, milk chocolate, a faint powdery matcha note from the depth, and strong thick peat with iodine.
When drinking, it's powerful with plum jam, grape skin, rich dense sweetness, seaweed, nuts, strong iodine and smoky charcoal-like peat, with pronounced woodiness and a faint hint of raw timber but remains rich.
[Good/Very Good]
This year's Laphroaig for Feis Ile, Cardis (Cardis). It is matured in bourbon casks and finished in Madeira casks.
This is a memorable bottle I bought myself at the distillery, and upon returning, I had it opened immediately in Yurakucho.
Incidentally, due to the high quantity available, perhaps influenced by Lagavulin's 200th anniversary, I could purchase it without much waiting.
It belongs to the type with strong bourbon cask woodiness common in recent Laphroaig 10-year-olds, with smokiness that evokes charcoal and ash alongside iodine.
Additionally, the Madeira wine nuances are well-integrated, adding fruitiness of plums and grapes along with chocolate, enhancing the sweetness in a rich manner.
Similar to Brodir matured in Port wine casks, while the flavoring might feel slightly forceful, the added fruitiness and rich sweetness seem to complement recent Laphroaig's character well.
