Glenfarclas 21 Year Old Official for Giaccone Full Proof
Bottle #グレンファークラス(GLENFARCLAS)
Indeed, it's superb. One of the pinnacles of sherry cask whisky.
Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 21yo OB for EDWARD GIACCONE 51.5%
The aroma is rich and powerful, very sensuous and heart-pounding, with old sherry, prune, bitter chocolate-drenched dry orange, black sugar, violets floral notes, bouquet garni, tanned leather, a touch of mint, clove, earthy, pleasant woodiness, and depth from old peat.
Upon drinking, it starts with a gentle mouthfeel that expands into a strong and rich flavor, with a textured bite. The wonderful old sherry is present, just like the aroma, with concentrated fruits and herbs, leather notes, a moderate sweetness, and a well-balanced woodiness with tannins. The flavor is profound, leaving an incredibly long and intoxicating aftertaste.
[Excellent]
An official bottle for Giaccone, the high proof version of Glenfarclas 21 years old.
Given that the bottle was in circulation during the 1970s, the distillation would have been prior to the 1950s.
The aroma is powerfully complex from the start, with a variety of fruits and chocolate, black sugar, herbs and spices, floral elements, leather notes, earthiness, old peat—each element emerging as you explore further.
There's also a certain sensuality that makes it heart-pounding.
The flavor does not disappoint the aroma's impression, expanding powerfully and richly with a textured depth. The content is intensely concentrated, with a rich sweetness that doesn't cloy and a pleasant astringency. The depth is immense, with an aftertaste that lingers in a dreamy way.
Overall, it's a whisky of immense satisfaction and persuasive quality. The flavor is exceptionally wonderful, but particularly in the nosing aspect, it's unparalleled in its ability to continuously unveil new elements, making one want to keep sniffing forever.
Compared to Macallan, another representative of outstanding sherry cask whisky, the biggest difference might be its lack of refinement.
The ruggedness, earthiness, and abundance of rough flavors come together in a compelling way that defines this Farclas.
After approximately 40 years since bottling, it's now at its prime drinking moment. In this era, it seems almost madness to include an official cask strength version, but without that decision, we wouldn't be able to enjoy it in such excellent condition.
Once again, I must thank Mr. Giaccone for making this possible.
This bottle was a gift received for the 9th anniversary celebration at Higakamachia's Walku Hall.
Congratulations!
