Springbank SPRINGBANK 21yo OB for THE WHISKY EXCHANGE 'WHISKY SHOW 2016' 54.1% one of 120 bottles
Bottle #スプリングバンク(SPRINGBANK)
A relatively low-peat Springbank that I liked. Springbank SPRINGBANK 21yo OB for THE WHISKY EXCHANGE 'WHISKY SHOW 2016' 54.1% one of 120 bottles The aroma is floral, with orange oil and vanilla, a touch of apple, a thick malty toastiness, light peat and dashi, rich. On the palate, it is slightly spicy with a textured mouthfeel, a sweet depth from plum jam and orange marmalade, balanced by a gentle astringency, seaweed, barley umami, faint minerals and peat, with a briny quality that is calm but leaves a long pleasant finish. [Good/Very Good] This is a Springbank 21-year-old bottled by The Whisky Exchange for this year's 'Whisky Show 2016'. The bottle has no label, but The Exchange's website states it as an official bottling. As it is 21 years old, the distillation date would be around 1995. Springbanks from the 90s, particularly later in the decade, were notably peaty, with some bottles being hard to distinguish from Longrow. However, this release stood out for its relatively mild peat. Additionally, the minerality and brininess felt comparatively milder. In exchange, the fruitiness was clear, allowing enjoyment of its sweet depth and barley umami. A floral and smooth Springbank, this feels more immediately drinkable compared to other releases that often require time to open up. #Springbank (SPRINGBANK)
