Home Tasting: Glenrothes 25 Year Old Official Bottling 2007
Bottle #グレンロセス(GLENROTHES)
A sherry cask-matured malt distilled in the 1980s, but the process was surprisingly excellent beyond what could be expected from its specifications.
Glenrothes GLENROTHES 25yo OB 2007 bottling 43%
・Aroma:
Rich sherry, a calm overall nuance, orange with milk chocolate, plum jam, ripe apricot, slightly peach, caramel, herbs, cream, gentle malty and woody notes, nuts, clove, rich and complex.
・Flavor:
Silky smooth mouthfeel, warm rich sherry, caramel, milk chocolate, ripe orange, American coffee, herbs, mixed berry jam, a dense sweetness with some tanginess, a slightly sweet-salty glaze like teriyaki, good tannins and woody depth with a balanced profile, slightly viscous (smoothness typical of official bottlings), rich and full-bodied.
・Aftertaste:
The balanced, slightly sweet flavor remains long and pleasant on the palate.
・Dilution:
The citrusy orange notes become more pronounced, but the flavor balance remains intact.
・Overall Impression:
Based on a rich sherry character, it is smooth and creamy with diverse fruity notes. The balance of sweetness, acidity, and tannins is very well executed. A beautifully crafted malt with an excellent drinking experience and a stable, satisfying flavor profile. It feels like it would remain vibrant even with aging or dilution.
【Good/Very Good】
The Glenrothes 25 Year Old Official Bottling from 2007. Calculating backward from the bottling date, this would be distilled around 1982. However, its sherry character is far better than expected from the specifications, with an excellent balance and a very pleasant drinking experience. I clearly sensed the creamy smoothness often found in my favorite malts. It has a warm, comforting atmosphere reminiscent of hot milk, making it ideal for sipping slowly during winter.
