GlenGoyne GLENGOYNE 25yo OB 48% SHERRY CASKS
Bottle #グレンゴイン(GLENGOYNE)
The pronounced sherry character was a refreshing rarity in this new release. GlenGoyne GLENGOYNE 25yo OB 48% SHERRY CASKS The aroma features deep sherry notes, mixed berry jam, prunes, American cherries, black sugar, bitter chocolate and coffee. It is rich yet refined, with a smooth mouthfeel that expands powerfully. The sherry character is aromatic and complex, with a rich berry jam sweetness balanced by herbal and clove spices. There's a subtle earthiness, good tannic dryness, and a slightly velvety texture. It's rich, complex, and has a faint seductive quality, leaving a long pleasant finish. 【Very Good】 This new release GlenGoyne official bottling follows the previous 21 year old, but this is the 25 year old. The ABV is set at a slightly higher 48%, and the price is more than double that of the 21 year old despite only a four-year difference in age. This seems like a release targeting a completely different market segment. However, the content is undeniably in a different league from the 21 year old. There's no recent artificial sherry character detectable in the aroma, instead offering a rich, complex and natural sherry cask profile. The aromatic expansion after drinking is flawless, suggesting the higher ABV setting was effective. Indeed, it has a wonderful sherry character with fruit, spice, herbs and faint earthy nuances. The velvety texture was also impressive. The balance between the rich yet refined sweetness and the tannic dryness that deepens flavor is well executed, with a slightly thrilling seductive quality. As a new release sherry cask official bottling, it's surprisingly delicious, reminiscent of the first time I tasted the Dornan 1972 after it changed hands. While not as outstanding as the Dornan '72, I hadn't expected much from this GlenGoyne, so it was quite a surprise in terms of deliciousness. Though the price is prohibitively high, I was impressed that good casks still exist in this era.
