GlenSpey GLENSPEY 30yo SPECIALITY DRINKS The Single Malts of Scotland ANNIVERSARY SELECTION 54.5% one of 455 bottles
Bottle #グレンスペイ(GLENSPEY)
A bottle with interesting aging notes and a certain Japanese nuance. GlenSpey GLENSPEY 30yo SPECIALITY DRINKS The Single Malts of Scotland ANNIVERSARY SELECTION 54.5% one of 455 bottles The aroma has a matured feel with Japanese pear, baked apple, pineapple, honey, pleasant oak, chestnut, and gentle barley notes. When drinking, it gradually becomes spicy with Japanese pear and apple, unexpectedly strong mint, a slightly honeyed sweetness that is refined yet not overpowering, pleasant oak, and clean finish. [Good/Very Good] This GlenSpey 30 Year was bottled by Speciality Drinks (Whisky Exchange). It is not the usual label from The Single Malts of Scotland, but instead labeled as Anniversary Selection. There is no vintage notation, but I think it was released in the late 2000s to around 2010, suggesting a vintage from the late 1970s. The aroma has a matured feel that doesn't immediately convey the alcohol strength, while maintaining Japanese nuances like Japanese pear and chestnut, yet also offering a diverse range of fruity notes. Additionally, it nicely balances with barley and oak elements. When drinking, the matured fruity notes are still present, but I sensed more mintiness than the aroma suggested. The sweetness is well-balanced with a good oak finish, resulting in a harmonious and pleasant flavor. The drinking experience was also enjoyable. By the way, when I drank the same bottle previously, I didn't notice the Japanese nuances. This is a rare case where my personal perception or the bottle's condition might influence how I experience the malt. I'll try to drink it again before it's gone.
