Strathisla 35 Year Old GM Circulated in the 1980s
Bottle #ストラスアイラ(STRATHISLA)
I was completely overwhelmed by its dizzying intoxication.
STRATHISLA 35yo GM 40% Circulated in the 1980s
The aroma immediately delivers an intoxicating sensation, with a wonderful old-world character. Notes of ripe orange and apricot, the grape-like essence of aged brandy, the woodiness of antique furniture, a hint of hinoki (Japanese cypress), old peat, and an alluring, dreamy quality. The palate begins with a smooth mouthfeel that expands into a more refined and aromatic experience than its alcohol content suggests, revealing the sweetness of apricot jam and honey, accompanied by a subtle hinoki note and old peat. The overall impression is beautifully balanced, creating an alluring and intoxicating flavor profile.
[Very Good/Excellent]
This is a 35-year-old Strathisla from the GM range that circulated in the 1980s. Assuming it was bottled around 1985, this would imply distillation dates around 1950. I believe the Strathisla 35 Year Old Bicentenary, which is the pinnacle of official releases with water added, was distilled in 1950 or 1951. This bottle contains a composition very similar to that. Not only does it showcase a rich array of fruits, but also the woodiness reminiscent of antique furniture and subtle hints of hinoki, along with old peat. These elements harmoniously blend to create a balanced, alluring, and intoxicating aroma. Despite its alcohol content, it exhibits a refined depth that is shared with the Bicentenary bottling. While not overly heavy-bodied, it leaves a long, intoxicating finish. It truly feels like a slightly scaled-down version of the Bicentenary.
I have tasted this bottle before multiple times, but I'm unsure if it's due to the batch or condition. This particular bottle felt especially delicious. Indeed, I think I love bottles like this.
