Glenmorangie GLENMORANGIE Official Bottling Bacalta 46%
The aroma is cheerful and relaxed sweetness, with ripe apricot, mandarin orange, apple tart with tea, creamy, a rustic touch from the depths but savory grain notes.
When drinking, it has a slightly viscous mouthfeel, with orange marmalade, apricot jam, a relaxed sweetness, simple graininess, a touch of caramel and cinnamon, with a warm aftertaste.
[Good/Very Good]
This is the 8th new release from Glenmorangie's Official and Private Edition series, 'Bacalta'.
After standard bourbon cask aging, it was aged for an additional 2 years in Madeira casks.
It seems different from the previous Madeira wood finish, as they used their own empty Madeira barrels, creating something akin to seasoned casks like those used for sherry. While the Oloroso sherry used for seasoning is not drinkable as-is, it's unclear if the Madeira used here is different.
Regarding the key content, perhaps influenced by the label, it was a cheerful and warm Moine experience.
The vibrant bourbon cask nuances weren't upfront, likely due to the 2-year maturation, but instead, a concentrated fruity sensation and sweet, creamy notes reminiscent of Western confections were felt.
Enjoying the rich, concentrated fruity sweetness imagined from the aroma was a pleasure.
Overall, it had a positive and warm flavor profile, aligning with the makers' intended impression.
This is indeed the thoughtful approach of Glenmorangie.
While this series isn't always to everyone's taste, it has a standard style recognized by both insiders and outsiders, yet their continued pursuit of innovation is admirable.
