Deanston DEANSTON OB 40%
1970s Circulation
The aroma has a pleasant old-fashioned character, simple barley, lemon, and plant-like notes reminiscent of old tatami mats. Upon drinking, it has a smooth mouthfeel, the barley's umami seeping into the tongue, syrup-like refreshing sweetness, lemon acidity, and a clean finish. [Good/Very Good]
This Deanston labeled 'DEANSTON MILL' is believed to be an official bottling from the 1970s. The aroma impresses with a pleasant old-fashioned character and simple barley notes typical of an old official standard. When tasted, it exhibits a delicate aged dryness characteristic of older whiskies, but also a refreshing barley umami that seeps into the tongue. The balance of sweetness and acidity is well-maintained, with a clean finish that makes it ideal as the first drink of the day.
This bottle was kindly provided by Main Malt in Kobe Sanmachi. Main Malt is a renowned shop among malt enthusiasts, and I had long wished to visit but never found the opportunity until recently. The conversation with the master, Kogo-san, was enjoyable, and his passion for malt was evident. The atmosphere of the shop felt like a clubroom for malt lovers, reminiscent of my favorite bar, Campbelltown Loch in Yurakucho. I stayed there for almost the entire operating hours due to the pleasant atmosphere, and it was a memorable night. Thank you very much.
