This blended whisky fully conveys the character of old malts.
BLACK & WHITE BLACK & WHITE 8yo 43% 1940s Circulation
It has a sense of old age but shows almost no signs of deterioration. It features a gentle old sherry, an earthy quality reminiscent of the land, a solid old peat, and a subtle sweetness of malt that lingers on the tongue. Despite its alcohol content, it has considerable depth and a long finish.
【Very Good】
An old bottle of BLACK & WHITE 8 year old.
According to IAN's master, the seal under the label is from a British exhibition held in New York in 1945. If this bottle was indeed from that event, the distillation would have taken place in the 1930s.
Although a considerable amount of time has passed since bottling, the condition of this bottle was surprisingly good.
Honestly, old blended whiskies often allow one to appreciate the goodness of old malts but also frequently show signs of deterioration, which I am not particularly fond of. However, in this bottle, there was almost no grain flavor detectable.
This is a remarkable bottle where the goodness of old spirit, represented by earthiness and unique peat characteristics, can be felt without being hindered by signs of deterioration.
This bottle was provided to me at the 'Whisky Lovers Nagoya 2018 Pre-Tasting' event held by IAN at Mitsukoshi-Mae.
