Home Tasting: Isle of Jura 8 Year Old Official (1980s Circulation)

Isle of Jura ISLE OF JURA 8 Year Old OB (40%) - Circulated in the 1980s
Bottle #アイルオブジュラ(ISLE OF JURA)
Indeed, Jura from this era has a strong tropical character. Isle of Jura ISLE OF JURA 8 Year Old OB (40%) - Circulated in the 1980s ・Aroma: A strong old character with a slight shiitake mushroom-like quality, orange marmalade and apricot jam, pineapple and mango, old caramel sauce, overly brewed strong tea, clay-like earthiness, tree sap, burnt barley, faint antique furniture, and aged peat from the back. ・Flavor: Spreading from a smooth, silky mouthfeel, orange marmalade, pineapple, overly ripe passion fruit and mango, caramel, tree sap, rich sweetness, penetrating barley umami, strong tea tannins and faint plant-like bitterness, dried shiitake mushrooms, similar clay-like earthiness as the aroma, and peat gradually emerging in the latter half with richness. ・Aftertaste: The tropical character of pineapple and passion fruit lingers long, accompanied by a faint peatiness and clay-like earthiness. ・Watering Down: It extends as is. Even with added water, the balance surprisingly doesn't collapse, though it doesn't become more interesting. ・Overall Review: Possibly due to condition, the old character was somewhat strong, but the clear tropical fruitiness characteristic of this Jura 8 was distinctly felt. The bitterness from strong tea and plant-like qualities are faint but seem to deepen the flavor. As expected from Jura 8, despite differences in condition and batch, it generally meets expectations. 【Very Good】 The Isle of Jura Official 8 Year Old circulated in the 1980s. Though I'm unsure if it's common, around me it's referred to as the 'Jura 8 (Jurappachi)' bottle. While there are various batches of Jura 8, the consistent tropical character and clay-like earthiness were clearly present in this bottle. However, initially, the old character was prominent and the tropical notes weren't upfront. After opening, the fruity aspects gradually intensified, reaching a peak after about a month. While Jura 10 Year Old often emphasizes clay-like earthiness with less tropical character, this 8 Year Old rarely fails to deliver the tropical notes. #Isle of Jura (ISLE OF JURA)
