Glenmorangie Official Rare Edition Port Wood Finish #83
Bottle #グレンモーレンジ(GLENMORANGIE)
Despite being aged for a short period, it has an astonishingly refined finish.
Glenmorangie GLENMORANGIE OB Rare Edition PORT WOOD FINISH 59.7%, one of 1757 bottles, a half-bottle set with the usual watered-down Port Wood Finish
The aroma features apricot jam, ripe oranges, concentrated black tea, tree sap, cinnamon, toasted barley, and is remarkably complex and rich. Upon drinking, it spreads gradually with a rich and powerful flavor, featuring a strong jammy sweetness, good sweet-sour balance, savory umami that lingers on the tongue, and a long, pleasant aftertaste. [Very Good/Excellent]
This is a cask strength bottle labeled as the Rare Edition of Glenmorangie's official Port Wood Finish. It was sold in a half-bottle set alongside the watered-down version I introduced previously. The circulation period appears to be around the mid-2000s.
The aroma is rich with concentrated, diverse ripe fruits, enhanced by notes of concentrated black tea and cinnamon, making it quite complex and rich. When tasted, it exhibits a broad, aromatic, strong flavor typical of cask strength, with a rich sweetness, good acidity, and an intense umami that penetrates the tongue, leaving a very enjoyable aftertaste. The exquisite sweetness and umami, combined with a high-proof drinkability that doesn't cause fatigue, make it easy to keep drinking. Since it's a half-bottle, once opened at home, it might be gone in an instant. (Laughing)
I got the impression that this high-quality bourbon cask base spirit was enriched with a deep sweetness and complexity from quality Port pipes. Additionally, this penetrating texture is likely due to changes within the bottle, and I suspect it was a more youthful, robust high-proof bottle immediately after bottling. Although I don't think it underwent long aging, the complexity and intense umami left a strong impression, making it possible to write an extensive tasting note. This is an exceptional Glenmorangie that clearly conveys the producer's desire for you to appreciate its excellence by providing a comparison set.
