Bottle #ボウモア(BOWMORE)
This recent distillation felt like a Bowmore with a strong, rich sherry character from recent years.
Bowmore BOWMORE 9yo Official Bottling Sherry Cask Matured 40%
The aroma has a heavy, robust recent sherry character with prunes, chocolate, herb liqueur, oat-like maltiness, briny notes and strong peat.
On the palate, it has a soft mouthfeel with plum and passion fruit, gentle jammy sweetness, oat-like maltiness with a slightly papery texture, peatiness, and a fruity finish that lingers moderately.
[Good]
Recently released official Bowmore 9 year old, matured in sherry casks.
This bottling exhibits a refined recent sherry character with minimal sulfuric elements, along with solid peatiness, tropical fruits, and the recent Bowmore's papery texture.
The youthfulness is masked by peat, and perhaps due to the dilution to 40%, it lacks the cask-forward feel typical of new releases, which was a positive aspect.
Personally, I'm not particularly fond of this recent Bowmore's papery texture, and the oat-like nuances within the maltiness were slightly off-putting. However, this is likely a matter of personal preference.
For those who don't mind these aspects, this bottle offers solid value as a relatively affordable sherry-style Islay malt with proper dilution.
