Glenmorangie GLENMORANGIE OB 'TUSAIL' 46%
・Aroma:
Rustic, rich, and intensely malty with notes of bread dough, vanilla, lemon cake, banana cream, strong honey, nuts, a hint of well water, minerals, and a pleasant rich oak.
・Flavor:
Soft entry expanding into orange peel, banana cake, a honeyed sweetness with body, rustic yet strong malty character with pronounced umami, unexpectedly mineral and briny, nuts, and rich oak.
・Aftertaste:
Spicy from the mid-palate onward, with a honeyed, textured sweetness and saltiness, alongside lingering rich oak and malty umami.
・Dilution:
Slightly monotonous, but emphasizes the rustic malty character and honeyed sweetness.
・Overall Review:
While it exhibits the bourbon-like qualities typical of recent Glenmorangie releases, its rustic simplicity and refined malt umami leave a strong impression. Perhaps the floor-malted barley is effective here.
It still shows youthful banana-like nuances reminiscent of distilleries or breweries, but lacks overt immaturity, offering a straightforward and enjoyable malt umami experience. The absence of artificial flavoring was also a positive aspect.
【Good/Very Good】
The sixth release from Glenmorangie's Private Edition series, 'Tusail'.
As previously covered in an article, this uses Maris Otter barley—a craft beer variety—processed via floor malting.
Both aroma and flavor emphasize the malt's umami, with clear emphasis on its special floor-malted production.
As a recent Glenmorangie release, its rustic and straightforward malt character is appealing. I believe those with some malt experience will find the aroma particularly enjoyable.
Additionally, drinking a glass left sealed for about half a day revealed a textured mouthfeel that seeped into the tongue, enhancing the malt's umami and making it exceptionally delicious.
Its flavor profile closely resembled how I imagined an aged version would taste, so I decided to purchase more and store it for some time.
