New Release: Ardbeg Official 'Perpetuum' Bicentenary Committee Release (Distillery Exclusive)
Bottle #アードベッグ(ARDBEG)
I didn't think it would be available exclusively at the distillery, so I was delighted.
Ardbeg ARDBEG OB 'Perpetuum' Bicentenary Committee Release 49.2%
The aroma has fresh lemon, youthful barley notes and plant-like qualities, slightly new pot still, yogurt whey, a cool metallic and chlorinated sensation, vanilla, nuts, sharp smoky peat with straw-like characteristics, plain cask influence, and a sense of brine or seaweed. Upon drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel that gradually becomes spicy, featuring fresh lemon, yogurt, young barley and plant-like qualities, light vanilla, chlorinated notes, cinnamon, slightly smoky with a charcoal-like edge, straightforward sweetness with lemon water acidity. The finish is unexpectedly short, and the body is light with a diluted-like flavor.
[Good]
This is Ardbeg Distillery's Bicentenary - 200th anniversary commemorative bottle, named 'Perpetuum'. It was first released as a committee release exclusively at the distillery.
I received a small sample from Mr. Watanabe, a malt friend, as a Scottish souvenir.
It has the sharp metallic and chlorinated sensations typical of Ardbeg, along with a strong smoky peat character. Overall, it leaves a cool impression.
The fresh lemon-like aroma is prominent, with slightly new pot still characteristics. The youthful barley and plant notes suggest the use of younger spirit, but for a short-matured cask strength whisky, it's surprising how light and diluted the mouthfeel and body feel.
I'm very curious about what specifications of spirit were used and the concept behind the vatting.
Recently, Ardbeg's releases of this type have often felt quite decisive in flavoring, but this bottle lacks any flavored cask influence and feels natural, showcasing the spirit's original character as a recent Ardbeg.
I sincerely congratulate Ardbeg Distillery on its 200th anniversary. Thank you, Mr. Watanabe, for the precious sample.
