Floor malting is truly impressive, isn't it?
Glenmorangie GLENMORANGIE OB 'TUSAIL' 46%
The aroma features fresh orange, vanilla, green banana, grassy notes, a gentle honey sweetness with rustic grain character, subtle mineral hints and earthiness. On the palate, it delivers a honeyed richness with gradual spice, ginger, banana, and a concentrated, slightly chewy grain flavor. Surprisingly strong briny notes linger with a rich, malty finish.
【Good/Very Good】
The latest sixth release from Glenmorangie's Private Edition series, 'Tusail,' has been released. This edition uses Maris Otter barley—commonly used in craft beer—malted through the traditional floor malting process. While no aging duration is specified, the overall impression retains a youthful freshness. However, it lacks notable greenness or immaturity, presenting as a well-crafted malt. Despite attempting to taste it without thinking about floor malting, the rustic, savory grain character remains distinctive. The strong mineral notes in both aroma and palate, with a pronounced brininess, left a significant impression. The atmosphere suggests increasing complexity and diverse fruity characteristics over time, reminiscent of this year's Lagavulin Caol Ila or Kilchoman 100% Islay. While this bottling showcases unique barley characteristics, it's hard not to marvel at the power of floor malting.
