The limited edition Signature Blend from Bell, a blended malt (vatted malt) primarily composed of Blair Athol and Inchgower, which are key malts for Bell. It's intriguing that a major company released a blend centered around two minor malt types.
There is no caramel addition, and thus no sherry-like notes in the color. However, the aroma conveys ripe fruits, a creamy milk chocolate sensation, and a rustic barley character. The smooth mouthfeel is impressive, with a well-balanced combination of moderate sweetness and astringency. The barley notes are present, and despite being 40% ABV with added water, it doesn't feel diluted.
Unexpectedly rich in flavor with a distinctive bitterness, these characteristics may be what define its identity as a vatted malt rather than an ordinary blended whisky. It has a satisfying depth of flavor typical of a malt whisky, and with a price tag around ¥1500 per bottle, it offers good value for money.
