one of 153 bottles
The aroma has strong maturation with estery fruitiness, like ripe muskmelon and overripe honeydew melon, slightly orange oil, and a refined fragrance. The taste is also estery with strong maturation, orange oil, gradually intensifying tropical pineapple notes, a sweet and tannic oakiness with gentle body, and a long finish that lingers more than the alcohol content suggests. [Very Good]
This is a 34-year-old Glenlivet bottled by SCOTCH MALT SALES in 2010. I believe the Celtic Cross was part of a diluted series. While this bottle wasn't my first experience, the aroma and flavor didn't leave a strong impression at first. However, upon tasting it now, I was amazed by its rich, diverse fruity maturation. The aroma suggested ripe muskmelon while the flavor strongly emphasized tropical fruits. Despite being diluted, it retained a solid body, making it a high-level diluted matured malt.
The bottle didn't specify its maturation years or other specs, but upon checking, it seems to have been sold for around ¥12,000 at the time. Back then, similar bottles like Duncan Taylor's cask strength matured expressions were also sold at lower prices, so it might not have been as talked about. Revisiting it with today's standards, I think bottles like this Glenlivet, which retain body after dilution, feel more substantial at the same alcohol level compared to other long-matured cask strength expressions.
