Mini SBT from naoskprs Sample: B

Springbank SPRINGBANK 1991 16yo Kingsbury #7129 59.1% cask type: bourbon
Bottle #スプリングバンク(SPRINGBANK) #SBT
A regular Mini SBT with the malt enthusiast naoskprs, next is sample B. (Contents below are based on blind tasting.) ・Mini SBT from naoskprs Sample: B The aroma is strong with citrus, vanilla, coconut, slightly young malt, cereal notes, dry peat from the back, tar, a bit of hay-like plantiness, and passion fruit from deeper. When drinking, it expands gradually with a strong stimulus, high proof, citrus, vanilla, slightly flat but also rich and sweet, with the taste of barley, clear peat smoke and tar, seafood dashi, faint passion fruit, oak tannins are slightly strong, and a somewhat dry finish. 【Good/Very Good】 The first impression is young malt with high proof, and the taste of barley is present. Rough but somewhat preferred peatiness. A tropical feel from passion fruit was sensed, though not very strong. The fruits aren't that strong, but the combination of this fruity direction and peat makes me think of Bowmore or Ardmore from the 90s. There's also a nuance reminiscent of inland peat with tar-like qualities, but since there was a seafood nuance, Bowmore was the first guess. If it's Bowmore, I think it would be a type from the 90s where fruits aren't that strong. The cask is probably bourbon barrel, with aging around 10-20 years, not too long. Cask strength between 55-60%. ・Prediction 1. Bowmore from mid-90s 2. Ardmore 1992 3. BenRiach from the 90s Others had a similar peatiness to recently drunk MacDha, but the fruit direction was different. Based on this tasting and prediction, I sent a reply email. The correct answer is... Springbank SPRINGBANK 1991 16yo Kingsbury #7129 59.1% cask type: bourbon It was Springbank 1991, 16 years old from Kingsbury. The vintage, aging time, and alcohol content were as expected, but the distillery prediction was quite off. However, upon reconsideration, I realized that Springbank from the 90s can have extremely peaty expressions. Also, tropical elements, especially the tropical feel of passion fruit, are rarely felt in recent bottles except for Bowmore or Ardmore. Although this bottle had a faint tropical feel, it was recognized as such, narrowing down to these two distilleries. Indeed, both Bowmore from the 90s and Ardmore 1992 usually have more pronounced tropical notes, so this subtle expression was rare. Because a distinctive characteristic was found to narrow down the prediction, I ended up relying on that, which is regrettable. #Springbank (SPRINGBANK) #SBT
